Freshmen need physical examinations    posted June 11, 2009

Each incoming freshman must have a physical examination and a record of immunizations at school before fall registration can be completed. Physical exams must be completed within 12 months prior to the start of school. Physical exam forms are mailed to incoming freshmen and are available in the nurse’s or athletic offices at your high school. A student’s schedule will not be released until this requirement is fulfilled, and physical examinations must be cleared by District 211 health services before participation in activities and athletics.

Incoming freshmen and students new to District 211 wishing to participate in summer athletics must present evidence of an appropriate physical examination taken within the last 15 months prior to the start of summer school on June 10, 2009. Parents and students should be aware that students competing in IHSA state series events, may be subject to random drug testing for performance-enhancing drugs. For further information, visit the IHSA web site (www.ihsa.org).

For your convenience, the Cook County Health Department provides immunizations at no cost. Clinics are held on Mondays from noon until 6:30 p.m. at the Cook County Court House in Rolling Meadows. For additional information, please call the Cook County Health Department, at (847) 818-2860. The Hoffman Estates Health and Human Services Department provides immunizations for any High School District 211 resident for a small fee. Incoming freshmen ... what happens now?   posted May 4, 2009

Incoming freshmen and their parents should have received an invitation to participate in a summer orientation program with school counselors. During this program, students will gain an understanding of the curriculum, student services, and school activities. These are small group sessions where graduation requirements and the development of a tentative four-year program of study are discussed. Guided tours of the school and facilities will be available for parents and students at this time. Students also will have an opportunity to have their ID pictures taken, if they have not already done so.

Early in July, incoming freshmen parents will receive mailings that will include a master enrollment form and medical restriction sheet. This must be completed and returned. Later this summer, students will be invited to an Open House as well as other activities designed to help familiarize students with their school.

In August, students will receive a student calendar/handbook that detail school policies and procedures.

Classes for the 2009-2010 school year begin on Wednesday, August 26.

Incoming freshmen follow-up   posted February 27, 2009

Incoming freshmen (Class of 2013) have completed placement examinations and high school student services directors have met with junior high school teachers to review placement decisions. At these meetings, directors and teachers reviewed examination results and performance in junior high school and, together, determined the subjects students will take as freshmen in high school.

Testing results were mailed in early January, while course placement and elective assignments were mailed in late February. Final class schedules will be mailed at a later date. If you or your child have questions related to academic programming, please contact the student services director at the high school your child will attend in the fall.

Incoming freshmen update   posted January 30, 2009

On December 6, 2008, the incoming freshman class of 2013 took the EXPLORE Test, part of the ACT Test series. All students entering 9th grade at a District 211 school during the fall of 2009 are required to take this test. Test results allow schools to make initial assessments of a student’s skills and abilities. Student Services Directors and junior high school teachers then review scores and academic placement during February. The information gathered from junior high school recommendations are essential to High School District 211’s placement process. This information may be used as criteria for placement in special programs, such as accelerated courses or general-level programs. Recommendations for summer school programs also may be made as a result of these test scores.

Notification of student course selection and Placement Test results were mailed in early January. The deadline for requesting a change in course selection is March 2, 2009. If you have questions or need further assistance, please contact the Student Services Director at the school your child will attend in the fall.

New students and incoming freshmen need physical exams   posted January 30, 2009

State law requires that each incoming freshman submit a physical examination and record of immunization before registration is complete. Without proof of a physical examination, a student’s schedule will not be issued. Physical examinations must be completed by a licensed physician, physician’s assistant, or nurse practitioner within 12 months prior to the first day of school. Forms completed by chiropractors must be co-signed by a licensed physician, physician’s assistant, or nurse practitioner. For new students, physical examinations should be completed before August registration.

Incoming freshmen and students new to High School District 211 wishing to participate in summer athletic or activity programs must present evidence of an appropriate physical examination taken within the last 15 months prior to the start of summer school on Wednesday, June 10, 2009.

Physicals also are required prior to participation or practice in interscholastic athletics and competitive spirit groups and are valid for one calendar year. Therefore, students planning to participate are advised to schedule physical exams annually prior to expiration of their previous physical to ensure eligibility throughout the following school year. Athletes participating in fall sports must complete their physicals before practice begins on Wednesday, August 12, 2009. Adhering to these dates will assure athletic and activity eligibility throughout the school year.
